Five Rivers Delta Resource Center

For an extraordinary outdoor adventure, check out the Five Rivers Delta Resource Center. There's no better entry point to exploring the second largest river delta in the United States, by land or by water.

Just under an hour from our Gulf Shores condos and Orange Beach rentals, the 5 Rivers area features over 250,000 acres of waterways to be explored. It is Alabama's largest National Natural Landmark and a great jumping off point for learning more about our Coast.

When you visit 5 Rivers, you'll be greeted by a large and informative complex of seven buildings that will help you orient yourself on the Delta and provide you all you'll need to know to explore 5 Rivers in any way you like. Stop by Delta Hall for fantastic views of the Delta and to hike the trails extending from the facility (which can also be rented out for meetings and receptions). Visit the Shellbank Visitor's Center to learn more about the area and see what is playing at the Tensaw Theater for further education on Alabama's natural resources. At the Bartram Canoe and Kayak Landing you can drop into the water at no charge, and explore the Delta as early Americans did hundreds of years ago. Reserve a "river safari" in advance to get a guided tour of the Delta from one of our local experts, or rent a kayak or canoe from 5 Rivers Delta Safaris to explore the marshes.

Wildlife

If you are an animal lover, there is plenty to see along the banks of the 5 rivers that make up this unique landscape! Keep your eyes peeled for alligator as you paddle, and a variety of turtles, including the Alabama red-bellied turtle. More than 120 species of fish swim in these waters, and hundreds of birds have been spotted in this area, including herons and osprey, and even on some occasions, bald eagles! Younger children might appreciate being able to get close to stuffed wildlife in the Apalachee Exhibit Hall, including a 12 foot alligator and boar that once roamed the Alabama delta!
