Mobile Bay Ferry

In an area as water bound as Gulf Shores, you have to develop work-arounds to get where you want to go. Luckily, the work-arounds we have developed over the years take the very scenic form of ferries. You can get around easily and pleasantly on the Mobile Bay ferry.

Mobile Bay Ferry

Give your car a break and cross the bay on the Mobile Bay Ferry. The Mobile Bay Ferry operates year round, using both of its ferries, the Fort Morgan and the Marissa Mae Nicole, during peak operating seasons.

Operating Times

Ferries run every 45 minutes (only once every hour and a half during non-peak seasons) and take visitors from Fort Morgan to Dauphin Island or from Dauphin Island to Fort Morgan. Fort Morgan is just a short drive from our Orange Beach rentals and Gulf Shores condos.

If you plan on riding the Fort Morgan to Dauphin Island ferry frequently, you can acquire a "Frequent Floater pass" that gives you a discount. If you are going one way by car, a ferry pass is $16.00, with a small additional fee of $4.50 per for passengers. Motorhomes cost $35.00 to cross, and motorcycles $8.00. Trailers and boats cost $10.00. Children under 12 can ride free. If you know you are going to return, take advantage of discounted round-trip pricing. Round-trip, cars are $30.00, with the same fee as a one way trip ($4.50 per) for passengers. Motorhomes cost $60.00 round-trip, and motorcycles maintain one-way trip pricing ($8.00), as do trailers and boats ($10.00). Children under 12 ride free on round-trips, too.

If you are just planning to ride the Fort Morgan to Dauphin Island ferry and are not taking a vehicle with you, you can ride one-way or round-trip for $5.00 (children under 12 are free). Pedestrians are welcome to bring bicycles on board the ferry for free.

What To Expect

The ferry ride lasts about 40 minutes, and takes you across Mobile Bay to a convenient landing point at either Dauphin Island or Fort Morgan (depending on the direction you take). Please arrive 30 minutes to an hour before departure to help guarantee your spot on the ferry. While riding the ferry you are welcome to get out and admire the bay, the rigs, and our wildlife. Many ferry riders spot dolphins, along with pelicans and other seabirds.

Save yourself a two hour drive (or four hour drive round trip) by riding the scenic Mobile Bay Ferry! It's a highlight for many who visit our Gulf Shores rentals and Orange Beach condos.
