Earlier today, Governor Kay Ivey modified the Hurricane Delta emergency declaration. Given that the projected landfall of Hurricane Delta is west of our area, Gov. Kay Ivey has rescinded the mandatory evacuation order for tourists and non-residents. To read the supplemental declaration, please click here.
The Alabama Gulf Coast can still expect possible storm surge, rain, and dangerous surf conditions. It is likely that while beaches will remain open, gulf waters will be closed to swimming for the safety of everyone.
The hours that were published in yesterday’s communication for the Front Desk and Call Center will remain in effect today and tomorrow. We will update you if changes are made to Front Desk and Call Center hours.

Our area is now outside the cone of predicted landfall for Hurricane Delta. We do remain under a State of Emergency declaration from our Governor requiring a mandatory evacuation for all non-residents. The National Weather Service has also issued a storm surge watch. Hurricane Delta is currently a Category 2 storm and is predicted to strengthen again to a major hurricane over the next 24 hours. To view additional information from the National Hurricane Center, please click here.
An important reminder is that even if the storm system doesn’t hit our area, we are likely to experience high water levels, dangerous surf and currents, rain, isolated tornadoes, and some winds. The effects could be exacerbated by the remaining debris and the state of our area as we continue to recover from the last storm.

To facilitate Alabama’s preparations for Hurricane Delta, Governor Kay Ivey issued a State of Emergency on Tuesday, October 6th. She states, “As residents along the Gulf Coast know all too well, these storms are unpredictable, and I strongly encourage everyone to take Hurricane Delta seriously.” (Note: As of 2:30 PM on Tuesday, October 6th, the state and local authorities have not issued an evacuation order.) We continue to monitor Hurricane Delta. This storm is expected to rapidly intensify today and will continue to do so as it enters the southern Gulf of Mexico. Currently, Hurricane Delta is expected to make landfall somewhere along the Louisiana coastline at the end of the week.
The Hurricane Delta storm system is expected to produce rainfall in excess of 4-6 inches, major hurricane winds and a dangerous storm surge. To view additional information from the National Hurricane Center, please click here.

We are monitoring Tropical Storm Delta currently located over Jamaica in the Caribbean Sea. This storm is expected to reach hurricane status over the next few days and enter the Gulf of Mexico by midweek.
We are still too far away for weather professionals to make any definitive predictions; however, our area is in the projected cone of potential landfall. Going forward, our team will continue to monitor and prepare for possible tropical weather at the end of this week.
