We always plan for a great vacation, but we can't always predict the weather. Nothing throws a wrench into a beach trip like a day’s worth of pouring rain.
Just because it's raining outside, however, doesn't mean that your trip to Gulf Shores or Orange Beach is ruined. There is still plenty to do and see no matter what the weather is like. Here are five great rainy day activities:
- Take an Art Class
The Foley Art Center offers classes for kids and adults all year round. Take a stroll through the art gallery to find your inspiration, then try your hand at creating a masterpiece. The Foley Art Center is worth a visit even if it's not raining.
- Exploreum Science Center
This amazing museum is about an hour’s drive from Gulf Shores, but if you have kids, it's worth the time. The Science Center has plenty of hands-on exhibits to inspire STEM-themed creativity. For kids under five, the Wharf of Wonder exhibit will be a big hit. Finally, take in a movie in the IMAX Dome theater.
- Pensacola Lighthouse
If you climb the 177 steps of the historic Pensacola Lighthouse, you’ll be rewarded for your efforts with some of the most beautiful views of the Gulf Coast region, rain or shine. Stay here long enough and you may even meet the legendary ghost in the Keeper’s Quarters.
- Bounce the Day Away
If you have young kids, you know that keeping them entertained on a rainy day can be a monumental challenge. If you need them to burn off some energy, bring them to The Factory, an indoor trampoline park.
- Try to Escape
If your kids are bit older, Breakout Games could be a great experience. They offer four challenging escape rooms where you can test your teamwork and problem-solving skills. After you solve a room once, you can go back and try to improve your time.
You don't have to let a rainy day or week ruin your beach vacation. There are still plenty of fun activities in and around Gulf Shores and Orange Beach to keep your family more than satisfied until the skies clear.
