We are gearing up for the 39th Annual National Shrimp Festival. This year's festival will be Oct. 7 - 10 on the beautiful public beach in Gulf Shores.

The fall season has arrived and the weather is beautiful on the Alabama Gulf Coast. It is a great time to visit your beaches and, this year, there is a lot going on.

Beach Update Sept. 2, 2010

Great news today from NOAA:

NOAA today reopened to commercial and recreational fishing 5,130 square miles of Gulf waters stretching from the far eastern coast of Louisiana, through Mississippi, Alabama, and the western Florida panhandle. The reopening was announced after consultation with FDA and under a re-opening protocol agreed to by NOAA, the U.S.

We have had a beautiful week on the Alabama Gulf Coast. A front moved through the area bringing lower humidity and pleasant beach conditions. For the weekend, we are expecting it to be partly cloudy with a chance of rain in the area and cooler temperatures with highs in the mid 80s.

It is been another beautiful day on the Alabama Gulf Coast.

Our beaches are still seeing a little sporadic oil impact, but the beach cleaning machines and work crews are out every night working to keep our sand white. The water was a sparkling blue and the sand sugar-white this morning in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores.

Alabama's coastal waters are open for fishing again! Alabama Marine Resources made the announcement Sunday. You can now keep and eat what you catch up to three miles off shore.

Scattered showers in the area have kept the temperatures at a comfortable level. The low pressure system (formerly TD #5)in the Gulf has given us a steady south breeze and some high surf.

Hank Williams, Jr. is 2nd Gulf tourism concert Sept 25

The second in the series of concerts for tourism on the Alabama Gulf Coast will be Sept. 25 at the amphitheater in Orange Beach. The concert will feature the Rowdy Friends 2010 Tour, which includes legend Hank Williams, Jr., Gretchen Wilson and Lee Brice.

It is a beautiful day on the Alabama Gulf Coast. The beaches look great and the water is clear. There are families enjoying the warm sunshine, white sand and sparkling water in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores.

Beach Update Aug. 4, 2010

BP says the "static kill" worked! In the Gulf, workers stopped pumping mud in after about 8 hours of their "static kill" procedure and were monitoring the well to ensure it remained stable, BP said.

This is wonderful news for all of us on the beautiful Alabama Gulf Coast and all of our treasured friends and guests that have been watching this event for the last 107 days.
