Memorial Day Weekend 2014 May 23-May 26

Memorial Day, which falls on May 26th, 2014, is a day of remembering the men and women of the armed services who have paid the ultimate price serving in the United States Armed Services. We honor their memory by celebrating with friends and family. Memorial Day weekend has long served to mark the beginning of summer vacation season.

On May 26th, you can participate in Fort Morgan's Memorial Day Tribute. Fort Morgan was active during the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, and World Wars I and II. It was built after Congress realized the need for stronger fortification along the eastern and southern coastlines. The massive fort contains more than 40 million bricks. Fort Morgan is just a short drive from our Orange Beach rentals and Gulf Shores condos

The Memorial Day tribute will include historical interpreters, representing different eras from Fort Morgan's storied history. There will be guided tours of the fortification. Artillery, small arms and other demonstration will portray the difficulties faced by troops at Fort Morgan.

Prior to the tribute at Fort Morgan, the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach region is home to exciting events and activities that are great for friends, families, young and old alike. The weather is perfect for a day at the beach. Average Memorial Day weekend temperatures are a low of 73 and a high of 85.

In addition to the beaches, spending a day at the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo or the Gulf Adventure Center at Gulf State Park adds more fun and diversity to your weekend vacation. For adults, on May 24th, you will not want to miss LuluPalooza, or Foreigner, Styx and Don Felder at the Amphitheatre at the Wharf in Orange Beach, AL.

Gulf Adventure Center at Gulf State Park

The Park is located between Orange Beach and Gulf Shores on over 6,000 acres with two miles of beach front. It has numerous picnic areas, a golf course, tennis courts and a nature center. The highlights of the Adventure Center are the Hummingbird Ziplines. On the ziplines you will soar over land, sand and sea. The zipline adventure lasts about 2 hours and includes training, a guide, and a 6 zipline course. It's a great way to spend Memorial Day weekend 2014.

Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo

There is a petting zoo and a reptile house. If you are lucky, the zoo can arrange for a special encounter with a tiger cub, kangaroo or reptile.
