Gulf Shores in May: What to Expect

The weather on the Gulf Shores in May is perfect: the water air temperature hover around 76°, so swimming in the clear blue ocean is always an option. Balloons in the Sky
For at truly unique view, visit Friday and Saturday, May 5th-6th and attend the Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival in Foley. Enjoy the nightly balloon glows held on Friday and Saturday night, as well as the free, fun entertainment, including live music and the Disc Connected K-9 World Famous Frisbee Dog Show. Keep your eye on the sky around dusk as you meander through the array of local retailers, artisans and crafters and eat some homemade ice cream.

A Music Festival on the Beach
Every music lover should experience a summer festival at least once in their lifetime. The good news is that the Gulf Shores hosts The Hangout Music Festival in mid-May (the 19th-21st this year), and the names are big this year: Mumford & Sons, Twenty One Pilots, Frank Ocean, Chance The Rapper and Weezer are just a few of the artists who will be there.

In addition to the music, there is beach volleyball going on, and you can catch a ride on the Ferris wheel or the Mega Drop. Since the festival is right on the beach, you can swim right beside the Hangout Stage and listen to the headliners. Only three-day passes are available, so be sure to clear up your schedule while you are here to accommodate for this.

Wine Tasting
Also in May is Waves of Wine, the Orange Beach Wine + Beer + Fun Festival. Held on May 13th this year, the festival will feature over 120 wines, three live music acts, craft beer, boat tours of the bay, and food from distinguished local restaurants. A ticket to the event will buy you access to all the fun, as well as a custom wine glass and wine bag. Wander through the large tents and meet the representatives of each carefully-selected wine from vineyards across the country. Best of all, you get to sample their products and potentially discover your new favorite wine.

The music begins at noon and features local artists who contribute to the laid-back vibe. If you want a break from sampling wines, there is seating in front of the stages so you can relax, and recoup. You can also sit back on one of the local boats that will be taking guests on a tour of the bay islands all day.
