An Orange Beach condo both kids and adults love

For Elbert Mullis, the best part about owning his family's condo at Phoenix West II in Orange Beach is not the blue-green water or the sugar-white sand. It is also not the serenity and peace of mind they get after spending a few days there. Nor is it the food, the shopping, or the varied adventures the area offers.

Mullis's favorite part is watching his grandchildren play on the lazy river and the giant slide right below his balcony.

"There is so much about the beach, but we were fortunate enough to choose unit 503, right over the Lazy River and the slide. My grandkids love it down there, and I just love watching them," Mullis says.

The retired accountant for Coke in Birmingham purchased the condo in 2006, while the building was under development, not knowing what was in store. The housing market crashed in 2008 and the economy tanked, then the BP Oil Spill finished things off.

"Brett/Robinson stayed with us, and we stayed with them. Had it been any other company, they would have declared bankruptcy and sold out. They are very loyal. We stuck it out, and the building opened in 2014. Last year we rented the condo 250 days [out of the year], which is great," Mullis says.

The Mullis condo offers occupants ample views and amenities. It includes a fully-equipped kitchen with granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances, and a breakfast bar. At the end of a long beach day, you may be ready for some relaxation and a movie perhaps. The condo is loaded with four flat-screen televisions with DVD players. Beautiful and warm coastal colors greet you throughout the condo, which accommodates 10 with its three bedrooms and four bathrooms. The living room has ample seating and a queen sleeper sofa, along with full-length room darkening drapes for the early morning sunshine.

The floor-to-ceiling windows in the living area allow for panoramic views of the sparkling gulf waters, and the dining area features a wood and glass table with six chairs for leisurely meals. The master bedroom includes a king size
bed and a bathroom with a double–sink vanity, Jacuzzi, and walk-in shower.

A second bedroom features two double beds, outfitted with warm pink and yellow comforters. The third bedroom features cool colors with a calming turquoise comforter on a queen bed.

"We had to furnish the entire unit, so we opted to hire interior designer Betsy Duncan. She did a wonderful job," Mullis says. "We love it down here in the fall, when it's a little less crowded."

The large balcony off the living room includes a table, chairs, and a chaise lounge. You can watch people strolling along the sand and playing in the water. Look straight down, and you'll see the winding lazy river, where the kids can play while the grandparents watch from the comfort of the patio
