Early Spring Events In and Around Gulf Shores

Spring is a fabulous time to visit Gulf Shores. Birds are singing, skies are blue and flowers are bursting into bloom, not to mention you're on the beach. What more could you want? Bellingrath Gardens

If you haven't yet made the trip to Bellingrath Gardens across Mobile Bay, spring is a great time to do it. Bellingrath boasts 65 acres of floral landscapes and sprawling oak trees. Some of the flowers that bloom there in spring include hydrangeas, Easter lilies, azaleas, impatiens and fuchsia. The Mobile Area Orchid Society's 38th Annual Orchid Show and Sale will take place at Bellingrath Gardens from February 27 to March 1. If you love orchids, you won't want to miss this. Another spectacular spring event at Bellingrath Gardens is the Azalea Bloom Out. The Azalea Bloom Out usually happens in mid-March, but it depends on the weather. To visit the gardens from Gulf Shores, you can either drive through Mobile on I-10 or take the ferry from Dauphin Island.

Audubon Bird Sanctuary

Another great early spring activity in the Gulf Shores area is to check out the Audubon Bird Sanctuary on Dauphin Island. This sanctuary is one of the top four places in North America to see migrating species in the spring. After their long flight across the Gulf of Mexico, over 100 species come to rest on Dauphin Island.

Orange Beach Festival of Art

The 41st Annual Festival of Art in Orange Beach will take place this year on March 14 and 15. This famous art festival features work from artists around the country and around the world. In addition to visual art, there is also live music and food from local culinary artists. You'll also find a variety of art activities for kids. Admission to the Festival of Art is free. Shuttle rides from the parking area are $2.

St. Patrick's Day at the Wharf

On St. Patrick's Day, March 17, the bars and restaurants on the Wharf in Orange Beach will feature special menus, specialty cocktails, live music and fun through a combined effort called the Sham Jam at the Wharf.

Stars Fell on Alabama

The 16th Annual Stars Fell on Alabama event at Lulu's will be held from March 19-22 this year. Stars Fell on Alabama is an event for parrot heads, a nickname given to die-hard Jimmy Buffet fans. Even if you're not an official parrot head, you can have a great time joining in the tropical festivities at Lulu's Homeport Marina this weekend in March. Lulu's is a famous Gulf Shores venue owned by Jimmy Buffet's sister.
