Christmas on the Coast
You know that feeling you get when the seasons change and Thanksgiving is just over? It’s Christmas time and there are so many things to do! It’s the same when you are visiting the Alabama Gulf Coast during the holiday season. There are so many activities to enjoy and things to see. Here’s your guide to all the “Sea-Sun-al” festivities in our area!
Winter at The Wharf
Horse and carriage rides followed by hot chocolate and ice skating. You can even get your photo made with Santa! Be sure to stick around for a holiday version of the Spectra light show as well. You can enjoy all this every day plus longer on weekends! Check the Wharf website for more information about each activity.
Gulf Shores will kick off its holiday festivities on Friday, December 7 with the Lighted Christmas Parade. The evening parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will feature festive lighted floats as well as appearances from holiday characters and marching bands. Large crowds of spectators looking to bask in the holiday spirit are anticipated along Highway 59 as parade entries make their way from Gulf Shores Public Beach to Sims Park.
Santa’s Workshop at OWA
Prepare to be transported to the North Pole when you enter Santa’s Workshop! It was getting a little too chilly for Santa so he decided to relocate to the Gulf Coast this year, and he is so excited to meet everyone in person! Filled with holiday themed décor, kids can enter the workshop and become one of Santa’s helpers. Once you enter the Workshop, visit every room and help him build fun arts and crafts for you to take home. Take a memorable photo with Santa Claus himself once you finish making your crafts! Santa’s Workshop is free with paid admission to OWA’s Amusement Park.
Join us on December 3, 2017 for Gulf State Park’s Annual Coastal Christmas. Bring the family for photos with Santa, marshmallows by the fire, hot chocolate, and holiday crafts. We will also have a performance by the Children’s Choir. Mark your calendars and come kick off the Christmas season with Gulf State Park! Weather dependent, will be cancelled if storms or forecast permit.
Don’t miss Coastal Alabama’s oldest Christmas tradition. The 33rd Annual Nautical Night of Nights Boat Parade will begin at Lulu’s at dusk and end at the Flora-Bama Ole River Grill. Enjoy great viewing sites all along the intracoastal waterway and at The Wharf on December 9th.
Now in its seventh year, this great Coastal Christmas tradition continues to grow. Join us for two great days of fun at the Orange Beach Event Center, where you will see over 70 vendors with everything from arts & crafts, jewelry, apparel, baked goods, children’s games & books and a lot more. Merry Market is open to the public and admission is FREE. Event occurs December 8th.
Children will have one last chance to visit with Santa on Saturday, December 16, as Gulf Shores hosts Breakfast with Santa at the Erie H. Meyer Civic Center. Beginning at 8 AM, families can dive into a wholesome breakfast complete with sausage, bacon, eggs and pancakes before having pictures taken with Santa. Admission is $5.00. (Children 3 and under are free)
If you are dreaming of a sandy Christmas this year, you have a lot to look forward to! Get out and enjoy the fun this holiday season! All of us a Brett/Robinson hope you have a very Merry Christmas.
