Catch the fun of the Flora-Bama Fishing Rodeo
Anyone who knows me knows I’m an avid fisherman, and I make my way down as frequently as I can to enjoy fantastic fishing on the Alabama Gulf Coast. Gulf Shores and Orange Beach boast impressive marine biodiversity. I’ve caught several varieties of snapper, grouper, tuna and mackerel throughout area bays and waterways. Beyond the diversity of the fish, there’s also ample opportunities to enjoy a wide variety of fishing trips. Whether you’re casting a line from the famous Gulf State Park Pier or going deep into the gulf on a fun fishing charter, you’re sure to have a great time fishing on the Gulf Coast. One of my favorite fishing events in the region is fast approaching, and I’ve already got my Brett/Robinson rental booked.
Now in its fifth year, the Flora-Bama Fishing Rodeo is set June 1-2 and hosted by the Flora-Bama Yacht Club. Entry fees are $45 for the adult division and $25 for the youth division (ages 12 and below). A portion of proceeds benefit Operation ReConnect, which provides much-needed R&R to our nation’s greatest after deployment.
Anglers compete in 30 categories spanning several species to see who can reel in a big one. Awards are given to the top three competitors in each category during the culminating ceremony. Beyond fishing, the rodeo features a weekend-long beach party with live music and great food. I’ve been to the fishing rodeo every year since its inception, and it gets bigger and better each time. I’ll see you there.
