What to do when it rains on your beach vacation

So it’s raining during your beach vacation. Sometimes that happens to my family when we stay in Orange Beach.

BR blog Oct. 21 rainy dayBut no worries – there is plenty to do on the Alabama Gulf Coast besides the beach. And just for the record, I don’t mind sitting on our condo balcony and watching the clouds roll in.

But if that’s not your thing, I get it. My wife and our daughter-in-law hit the local stores. In Orange Beach, SanRoc Cay is great, and there’s good shopping at The Wharf. In Gulf Shores, head over to Pelican Place for a great variety.

The Wharf and Pelican Place also have multiplex cinemas, so my son and I sometimes tag along to catch a movie.

All of those shopping centers, along with other strip malls and the Original Oyster House Boardwalk are great for souvenir shopping and have bars and restaurants where you can kick back. Arcades found in Adventure Island and Fat Daddy’s in Orange Beach and The Track and LuLu’s in Gulf Shores also offer entertainment for the whole family!

And the area boasts great little museums such as the Gulf Shores Museum, Orange Beach Indian and Sea Museum and the Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach.

Many of the Brett/Robinson Vacations properties also have indoor pools, fitness centers and other amenities where you can while away a rainy day.

Good news: Bad weather rarely lasts very long on the Alabama coast. Before you know it, you’ll most likely be back out on the beach!
