Join the biggest party of the year at the mythical, magical Gumbo Key
First thing you need to know about Gumbo Key is that it’s a mythical place. If you look for it on a map, you are looking in the wrong place!
It moves with the breeze and boaters find it using its GPS position. This year it’s east of Bird Island and west of Ono Island.
On Saturday, June 20, boaters will gather at the spot at high noon and will pull up anchor at “5 o’clock somewhere.”
The floating event is a concert where people soak in the gulf waters while soaking up the music by the Wes Loper Band plus Roddie Romero & The Hub City All-Stars.
There is no admission fee, but you do have to go by boat. Don’t have one? Rent or charter one, or make friends with a boat owner.
The concert has grown quickly over the years, from about 400 boats the first year to more than 1,500 last year.
So find a way to get on a boat and get up to the north part of Perdido Pass for the biggest local party of the year!
