The Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival is this weekend in Gulf Shores & Orange Beach, and I’m thinking I might have to drag my dad down for the weekend. One of my earliest memories with my dad is of the time we were watching incoming hot air balloons from our front porch. I remember being completely fascinated by the view—and completely thrilled when one of them landed in a field behind our neighborhood. The two of us (and many others from the neighborhood) walked over to the field to watch the spectacle.
So it just seems fitting that the Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival is taking place this
weekend—Father’s Day weekend. We could really turn this into a fun family vacation: bring the grandkids down, spend the weekend enjoying live music, arts and crafts, good food, and watching the Disc-Connected K9’s World Famous Frisbee Dogs perform. And of course we would get to re-live a pretty neat memory by watching the departure and arrival of 50 hot air balloons in the mornings and evenings during the festival weekend. It’s a sight I doubt you ever outgrow.
