Parades, a Marathon, and Live Music on the Gulf This Weekend

I love long weekends. I did a little bit of everything during this past one—a little cleaning, a little late-sleeping, a lot of football-watching. The only problem with long weekends is they eventually end, and once again you’re faced with reality.

But at least we’re a little closer to the next weekend. If you’re going to be in Gulf Shores & Orange Beach this weekend, there are several fun events going on to help you make the most of a regular-length weekend.

Like the Krewe De La Dauphine Mardi Gras Parade on Saturday at 1 p.m. Get an early glimpse of Mardi Gras with floats, masked riders, beads, and moon pies. (The parade is about two hours from Gulf Shores & Orange Beach—or you can take the ferry to Dauphin Island.) Then if you’re in an active kind of mood—or just feel like checking out a little sports action—the Gulf Coast Half Marathon Series is taking place on Sunday at 7 a.m. Begin at LuLu’s, end at LuLu’s, then maybe hang around for some delicious food at LuLu’s.

And let’s not forget the local nightlife—live music and good times Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday at places like LuLu’s, the Flora-Bama Lounge, and Tacky Jack’s. A short weekend is no excuse not to have fun when you’re on the Gulf!

Hi there, I just found your blog and really enjoy it. I was wondering if you could help me, I am thinking about taking my daughter to the parade today (we are in Perdido) and I was wondering how far ahead of time I should get there? Are there places to park for the parade once you are on the island? Thanks in advance for any info.

      Hi Theresa,
We’re so glad you enjoy the blog!
You should arrive 45 minutes to an hour before parade time. There is parking on Bienville Avenue, which is the road that runs in front of the ferry dock. You can park anywhere along that road.
Check with the ferry before you depart. They were having some mechanical problems last week but planned to have them resolved in time for the parade.
