I’m starting to hear a lot about the 2012 Summer Olympic Games now that they’re only a year away. I just love the summer Olympics and can’t wait for next summer. I’m not sure if more summer sports events are being scheduled because of the upcoming Olympic games or if I’m just more aware of them because summer sports are on my mind more these days, but I’ve been hearing about several events that I’d like to attend—such as the Perdido Key Beach Volleyball Tournament scheduled for August 20th and 21st.
Volleyball was one of my favorite events to watch during the 2008 Olympics. (Misty May Treanor and Kerri Walsh were awesome!) And though the Perdido Key tournament isn’t related to the Olympics, it would still be fun to watch—or participate in, if you’re a volleyball player. Participants get to compete for a total purse of $2,000—not bad for a registration fee of $40 per two-person team and $100 per six-person team.
I’m thinking it would be a good weekend to stay at either Phoenix IX or Phoenix X, as both are close to Perdido Key. Plus they each have some excellent sports amenities (indoor climate-controlled tennis court at Phoenix IX and a racquetball court at Phoenix X). I may not play volleyball, but I can dominate in these two racquet sports!
