Mardi Gras and Fat Tuesday

My least favorite month of the year is past; winter is halfway over. Finally, we enter February, and you know what that means: Mardi Gras is only about a month away.

If you love parades, then this is the time of year for you. By the end of the month, the festivities start, kicking off with Apollo’s Mystic Ladies Mardi Gras parade and the Children’s Mardi Gras parade on Friday, February 25th. Several more parades take place leading up to Fat Tuesday: The Haven’s Mystic Mutte of Revelry, Maids of Jubilee, Mystic Order of Persephone, and Krewe of Mullet Mates Mardi Gras parades (to name a few with the most interesting names, in my opinion).

But the big party is on Fat Tuesday, March 8th, with the Gulf Shores Mardi Gras parade and LuLu’s 7th Anniversary Celebration and Boat Parade, both starting at 10 a.m. LuLu’s will feature live music from the Glen David Andrews Band of New Orleans from 1 to 5 p.m., then local favorite Greg Brown from 6 to 9 p.m.

Also worth checking out is the History of Mobile’s Carnival and Mardi Gras on Sunday, February 27th. There are some interesting things to learn about this event.

More information about the various Mardi Gras activities is available on the OrangeBeachToday.com calendar of events.
